Christmas Contest Entry - The Aurora Effect

Blue Dragon
Blue Dragon - ID 11279

Between sunset and true night, the twilight was beginning to fade as Blue Dragon finally reached the crest of the mountain peak.  "Finally, perhaps this is what I need.", he spoke aloud, though he was alone, still uncomfortable in his human form.  The sky darkened, and he waited, knowing that the northern lights, the Aurora Borealis would soon appear.  "An ancient Celestial power, I must see if it can repair the damage these morphons have caused to me."

He smiled as the first spectacular flashes danced across the sky.  On this high peak, it would be a simply matter to fly into the lights, to bathe in their power.  It was then, that he noticed on a nearly ledge, a half buried sleigh, red with gold and green trim.  "How did that get....", he began and then noticed movement under a cloth bag.

He moved quickly toward the sleigh, a preternatural dread began to creep over him.  "What the...!!?", he exclaimed as the cloth parted and a small, ferocious being erupted from the confines of the sleigh.

"You wanna piece O' me boyo!!?  Well jest you come an git some!", the brightly garbed, pointy eared, diminutive little fireball glared furiously.  The elf's head snapped up catching sight of the aurora, "NO!!  Not again....those particles....the lights.....".   He dove back under the cover of the bag.

Blue Dragon spoke evenly, "I am not here to har..", the elf interrupted, "It's not YOU, its THAT!!??  A tiny arm trembled pointing to the sky.  "Our Elfnology spotted those morphon particles during a practice run one night with Santa and his sleigh.  The particles traveled through the lights and were.....well..changed!  The elves caught outside.....they, they, turned into gremlins, evil, nasty, ill-tempered...some had frickin laser beams!!"

"You are telling me that THIS is Santa's sleigh, and you are one of his elves?"  Blue Dragon spoke. He knew of Santa, an ancient and powerful force for good.  One of his brethren had even used his time on earth to visit the Lord of Christmas.  "Where is he now?"

"He was taken, overpowered by the elves...err....gremlins.  By the time the elves that were unaffected from inside Santa's fortress emerged, he was already gone.  I tracked the sleigh here.  The morphons, they are, gone?  I don't wanna end up like one of 'em."

Blue Dragon nodded.  "Yes, the earth was bathed in these particles, but that phase is over and whatever damage was done is complete.  I am sorry for your fellows, they did not deserve such a fate.  Any idea where they would have taken Santa?"

"Yes", the elf nodded sadly, "based upon the flight path of the sleigh, they could only be headed toward the cave where Santa imprisoned Krampus.  I think they mean to release the stinky bugger, and I'll wager they will use that same prison to trap Santa."  The elf began to sob, an emotion clearly foreign to him.

"My friend, this will not stand", Blue Dragon pulled the elf from the sleigh.  "We will need help.  Fortunate for us, Santa is universally loved", he grinned, "crank up that sleigh radio, we need to send out a call for heroes, it's time to bust St. Nick out, and maybe lay a hurting on old Krampus...…

Good work. I enjoyed that so far. Would love to see you finish it. I did include it in the entries.
