FAN-FICTION CONTEST: My Multiverse - A world without a wave

Tryangle
"There's no such thing as an EA wave!" shouted his one-time staunchest ally as he dodged the energy blast.

Tri-blade continued his assault. The voices were meaningless, empty. He only heard screams of despair, over and over again. He gripped his dagger tightly with his right hand, while his left hand continued to pour waves of purple energy outwards. He grimaced, the sweat cascading down his face.

Only a month ago, he felt no such mental pains. The life of a hero with extraordinary abilities had been growing more and more pleasant. While memories of his original homeworld remained, they were faint, and he was determined to ensure the population of this realm was protected against anybody threatening to cause harm. After rescuing Ability Mage from the evil Legion, he chose to make his new home in a familiar-looking island nation.

He even convinced his goddaughter and her mom to stay; the chaos left behind in the wake of the Mythics' revelation and the emergence of World Corps provided them a reason to continue to protect innocents here. Their original homeworld, there was a lesser threat - and heroes there more than capable of handling things.

One day, he woke up with a pounding headache. He saw double. It felt as though there were ghosts lingering close by, practical clones of himself and others, but out of focus, out of step.

His best friend didn't seem any worse for wear, and when they went on a reconnaissance mission at the request of B.A.D.G.E., it seemed that the headache was vanishing.

When he touched the ring mounted on his gauntlet - the one with a distinctive L* embossed - he fell down immediately, stunned.

"Are you okay?" shouted his ally, but the voice was garbled to Tri-blade. He could barely see in front of him. It felt as though someone smashed a brick across his head without warning. Tri-blade rose to his feet.

He closed his eyes tightly. When he reopened them, his vision was back. Vivid colours flooded his mind, but they were not normal. The reds were bold, the greens pale, the blues non-existant. His world was a garbled grey with red streaks, the marks left behind by running, panicked, citizens.

"EA is coming!"
"Run!"
"Run where?"
"Just don't stop!"

Tri-blade looked up. A gargantuan monster, with only its legs and lower torso visible, swung an arm larger than a skyscraper, sending hundreds of people flying at once.

"This... is EA?" Tri-blade whispered. "It's immense."

He drew one of his daggers from its sheath and ran forward. He couldn't fly, and for some reason he knew he couldn't teleport anymore. But he was duty-bound to stop this monster at all costs.

"For S! H! C!" he screamed.

His friend leaped away, narrowly dodging Tri-blade's dart forwards.

"S.H.C.? What are you talking about?" his friend cried out.

Tri-blade ignored the garbled noise, and jumped as high as he could, hoping to strike as high up on the monster's leg as he could, in order to bring it down and then look on the face of the EA monster.

"The wave is upon us!"
"We have no chance!"
"Just. Keep. Running!"
