Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

The Sword of Gerraxia
Gerri was shocked when James asked her to marry him.  It was right before the last fight with Father Time.  She was silent for the entire fight and responded when it was over and everyone was returned to their normal age.  She had to thank Astra and Doug for their quick thinking.  She suspected Futurina may have had a hand in that.

She slid the gorgeous diamond ring on her finger and said, "Yes, James, I'll marry you."  James Keebler's jaw dropped.  It was his turn to be shocked.  He had been trying to propose for five months and she was always called away to a fight for BADGE.  He stopped her before she could fly off this time.  When she flew back to meet him she opened the box and gave her response.

"Really?" He questioned.  "We're going to need a lot of cookies!" She smiled at that.

"Calm down, James," She said gently.  "We have other things to consider first.  Do we want a normal human wedding, or an Elven wedding?"
"Swords are for fighting."

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

Chained Angel
The store had brands on the shelves that she hadn't seen in years. Everything was familiar, yet different at the same time. Packages were larger. Nothing she knew of was sold in family size, it was all individual portioning. And the paper wraps on the items all had pictures on them, not just a stamped QR code that would be deciphered by a persons personal communication device. She wandered through the aisle of the small grocery store, enjoying the novelty of it.

Until she reached the cracker and cookie aisle. Keebler was written on package after package with images of festive, tiny elves all over them. She took and arm and placed it next to several packages and rushed forward, knocking packages to the ground as she roared a hateful epitaph. "Damn you. Damn you and what you did!"

"Hold on, miss," an old man said as he came around the corner, his blue shirt and uniform jacket identifying him as store security. "You can't be doing that here."

"Then I'll leave."

As she started to walk past him to the exit, he tried to grab her elbow to escort her out.

She shoved her elbow into his chest, audibly cracking several ribs. "Hands off, grampy. Don't touch without consent or I'll see you're cancelled."

He dropped to the ground, clutching his side as she walked calmly past the check-out lanes. Other customers and staff rushed to him, trying to help him while giving her a wide berth.

The latest copy of the Sentinel News caught her eye. She grabbed it as she left, along with a lollipop from a jar next to the register. Unwrapping it as the doors parted, she placed it in her mouth and read the front page. "Hmmm. So, that's the date. That's interesting. Very interesting indeed."

The door closed and a few seconds later, a large shadow darkened the panes of glass before they shattered inward. A strong blast of air blew papers and objects from the front shelves deeper into the store as something outside lifted up into the air and disappeared.

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

The Sword of Gerraxia
Gerri approached Krystal Fae's office.  She was beaming.  She tried to keep her actions measured but it was difficult.  She was not in costume but she was excited.  She tried to keep her knocking patient.  She failed.

"I'm coming as fast as I can," Krystal stated on the other side of the door.  "Hi, Gerri, what's with the impatient knocking?"

"I came to tell you the news," Gerri grinned.  "James proposed, I said yes."  She hugged Krystal.  "The reason I came to you after telling my parents was because we decided to have an Elven Wedding.  That means we need your blessing."

"Of course," Krystal confirmed.  "I'm so happy for you and James.  You've been together for a long time."

"I also don't know how to contact Santa," Gerri confessed.  "He usually contacts me.  I just want him to be there."
"Swords are for fighting."

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

The Sword of Gerraxia
Gerri and James sat down and started to make a list of people to invite.  At the top were of course Krystal Fae, their parents, Gerri's younger brother, James Uncle Ernie, who had been a big part of both of their lives.

"Who else?" James questioned.  "Keep in mind most of your friends don't know your an elf, and we're having a traditional Elvish wedding."

"Well, I have to invite Prysmatica, she helped fight Redd Capp," Gerri explained.  "Starmaster and Catalyst have been a big help at times, Wyldfyre helped with the Goblin King.  You know we should just invite the whole of Star Force."

    "Noted," James confirmed.  "Anyone else?"

"My own league.  I told the Galaxy Rangers a long time ago," Gerri said.  "They may not be the classiest of people, but they have good hearts."

"Good point, the Captain is a lot of fun," James agreed.  "Just keep them away from the bar until the reception."

"Oh, we can't forget Futurina," Gerri started.  "She knew my great grandmother.  She was there when grandmother was born.  She deserves to be there."

"I can't argue that," James stated.  "Even Uncle Ernie said she was treated poorly by the Elves."

"We need to invite Highlander and Fiona.  Crossroads and Chaz Hamilton," Gerri finalized her list.

"Chaz? The reporter?  He'll tell everyone we're elves," James tried to object.

"No, he won't," Gerri stated calmly.  "He's known since I went to Fae-re that I'm an elf and hasn't said a word about it.  He really is trustworthy."
"Swords are for fighting."

Gerri left Krystal Fae's office, her spirit bolstered by Krystal's blessing on her plans to marry. There was little doubt in Gerri's mind that the princess would say anything other than yes, but being able to strike the possibility of a no from that tiny, hidden box deep inside her mind where she held her fears and insecurities felt wonderful. Having a wedding blessed by the royal court didn't hurt either, not that she was marrying him for the presents or pageantry.

She made her way to the Keebler factory, thinking of all the work that needed to be done. Should she have a maid of honor?  If she did, who should she choose? The society of Earth expected her to have one, but there were older customs of her people which didn't. She would need to talk things over with James and find out what his wishes would be for the ceremony. Just the thought of such decisions made her feel giddy with joy.

The next day, after planning out who would be invited, as well as other details with James, she went to a nearby park to commune with nature. People were important, but the bond between elves and the natural world was strong. She needed to put her thoughts on marriage out to the world itself and be open to how it responded.

"Swords are meant for fighting, aren't they? Why are you thinking about marriage when you have far more important things to do, scion of Gerraxia?" a booming voice said from above her head.

Gerri lifted her head but only found shards of light reigning down, blinding her from seeing who or what challenged her. Where the rays touched her skin, she felt her flesh smolder. Not like fire, but like a really bad sunburn, where her skin might be baking rather than burning. She winced with pain and put her arm up to shield her eyes.

"Do your duty, hero, and I will bother you no further."

The pain deadened, and Gerri sought out what was in the sky once again, but found it empty but soft, white clouds in the distance.

Krystal Fae (Acidburn)

Krystal was having brunch on the patio of her new house.

She had lived in a brownstone apartment until recently, but with her new 'compainions' and a baby soon to be born, she needed the extra space and anonymity that a house afforded.

Meri and Dafi were at the table discussing the differences between Fae cousine and human food, when a brilliant, hot, beam of light began to shine from above.

After a few moments, the temperature became uncomfortable.  Krystal quitely murmured a few syllables in Elvish, and the temperature dropped.

From above, a voice sounded.  It was difficult to decide if it was a masculine voice, or if it was feminine, but the message it conveyed was clear.

"Convince the sword that her planned union is ill-fated, or many will suffer."

As the beam faded, Krystal pondered the implications.

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

The Sword of Gerraxia
Gerri received a call from Krystal Fae.  She didn't know who this being was either.  She only knew that they wanted Gerri to call off her wedding.  This confused Gerri.  Why is her happiness the doom to so many others?

"Do you believe them?" Gerri asked.  She was looking at dresses while kick boxing.  For Gerri that was the best way to relieve stress.

"No," Krystal stated.  "If your union to James was as dire as this person claims, Futurina would have seen it and already informed me and you."  Krystal sipped some water.  "Are you in a fight?"

"No, just practicing my kick boxing," Gerri reassured her.  "It helps me with stress.  Whoever this person is, they think I should stick to just being a super hero.  No love or happiness for me and James.  Do you think they might be jealous?"

Krystal pondered a moment, "That's a possibility.  Let me consult a few people I know.  I'll get back to you?"

"By the way, when is the baby shower?" Gerri asked.
"Swords are for fighting."

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

Prysmatica
Involving the princess bothered her greatly. It was foul and ill-mannered, but she didn't have any other idea how to put the Sword of Gerraxia of of her plan for marriage. She ran her hand through her long hair and drew it behind her own pointed ear, an elven ear with several earrings dangling along its side.

"She can't marry," she pounded her left fist into the trunk of a tree, searing the bark black where she touched it. Instantly, her anger turned to regret. She stroked the unburned bark next to the wound she inflicted. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. Its just that she doesn't know what will happen. If I tell her, it will only get worse."

With a quick twirl, she let her back gently collide with the back of the tree and she slid down into a seated position, her knees bent in a wide V-shape. "I wish I knew how I got back to this time. Did someone send me back to stop it, cause they should have picked someone else? I'm a fighter, not a fixer."

Her hand swayed over a patch of grass with tiny dandelion buds handing from short stems. She waved a hand over the plant and it brightened as if bathed in full sunlight in an otherwise shady spot. The bud opened and a bright yellow flower blossomed from its shoot.

There were many heroes she knew who were around during the period of time where the World Corps had been an active enemy of BADGE, but involving them could bring about unplanned changes to her future. All she wanted to do was stop one union. That was the nexus of what would come to pass. She didn't want to unmake her future, she wanted to correct it.

A name popped into her head. "Of course. They could do it. They can do pretty much anything, even if they don't know it now. All I need to do is find them."

"Hi, Krystal," Romana said as she spoke to Krystal Fae over a BADGE secure video chat channel. "How are you doing?"

"Pregnancy is a very unique experience, I must say," Krystal said from her new brownstone home. A fairy flitted into view, her arms wrapped around a bundle of fresh-cut flowers. "Let's give the aromatherapy a moment, please."

The fairy blushed and darted off screen, a spray of petals falling off the flowers in the process.

"Aromatherapy? I'd say your following a somewhat eastern philosophy on obstetrics if I didn't know your history. It must be very confusing at times, knowing all the different treatment practices available to you." Romana said. "Studying anatomy and physiology is challenging enough for my one medical degree."

"You know what they say, knowledge broadens the mind," Krystal replied. "Did you call to talk about anything specific?"

"I did," Romana said. "Gerri contacted me about her bridal shower. She says it is traditional as an elf for her friends to organize it, rather than just the maid-of-honor. I'm not very familiar with what her culture does prefer? So I wanted to run past you the idea of a bachelorette party that would be appropriate. And should we approach doing this carefully? Getting us together in one place might be hard to risk with the World Corps after so many of us."

"Crossroads and I have discussed that very topic," Krystal said as she took a drink from large glass carved out of what looked to be pure amethyst. "We thought some of us could invite her to Allyson's place of work for dinner, then take the party... elseworld?"

"Elseworld?" Prysmatica asked, a confused, yet curious, smile playing on her lips. "To the Fae Realm?"

"We've visited there recently, so I was thinking somewhere more... exotic," Krystal said with a suggestive raise of her eyebrow.

"Nyx, dear...", said Krystal, " ...please contact Haz'pur'at in the realm of Hedonia... Inquire if they could reserve us a table for twelve for the evening of the eighteenth?"

"Certainly... any special arrangements?", Nyx inquired.

"Yes... Inform her that several of the party will be human, and must not receive certain menu choices, she'll know which choices are restricted."

"Very good, Mi'lady." , Nyx replied.

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

The Sword of Gerraxia
Who is this person who doesn't want Gerri to marry James?  Gerri pondered this as she made a list of potential enemies.  Most were just jealous women who didn't have the powers or technology to do what person was doing.  Gerri was stumped.

She handed the list to James, "This is all I could up with.  I don't believe any of them could be the culprit."  She hugged him.  "What do you think?  Anyone on the list suddenly developed these super abilities?"

"No, Rosalyn just told me her boyfriend proposed.  Amy hasn't been dating but is looking for a new partner.  I don't even know who Sammy is," He stated going over the list.  "How are your friends doing on the bachelorette party?"

"I guess their doing alright," she replied.  "All Krystal would say is we're meeting at the bar Crossroads works at."  She thought for a moment.  "What are your friends doing for the Bachelor party?"

"I try not to ask, because it's usually something more fun for them than me," he returned.  He kissed her to change the subject.

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

Chained Angel
Before the bachelorette party, there were many other plans and activities to take part in for Gerri's big day. Prysmatica and Chained Angel, both in their secret identities of Romana and Angelica, invited all several of Gerri's friends to a special day out on the town in Neo Utopia to look at dresses, choose flowers, and taste samples of various foods for the reception, including the wedding cake.

They met at the Neo Utopia Botanical Garden, where they were to start the day with a casual stroll through the magnificent floral biodome that had been created next to the N.U. University. Angela and Romana got there first, as they had made gift bags for all those who could join.

"Do you think we have enough?" Romana said as she carried a box full of gift bags to the room they had reserved to gather in.

"I'm sure we do," Angela replied. "I counted the RSVPs and added 25, just in case some of those who didn't respond still showed up, like Fiona and Ally."

"Good thinking," Romana responded. "I hope we can get Gerri's mind off of the you-know-who that's trying to intimidate her."

"I hope they show up." Chained Angel backed into the door leading into a tiny meeting room. A large banner hung over the back wall, welcoming the guests. "Considering who all is going to be showing up, we can sort this out diplomatically, amicably, or violently, depending on how this person reacts. Gerri deserves happiness just like anyone else."

Romana started putting bags out on the table at the entrance. "I hope the spirit of Aphrodite blesses her union and protects her. Did you bring the box for Krystal?"

"Of course. We can't forget to celebrate her upcoming blessing as well." Angelica removed a small container from the box she carried in. "It's so hard to surprise a telepath, but hopefully by combining the two events, we will have disguised our efforts enough. Nobody but you and I know about this, right? You didn't tell Chaz?"

"No. He and I haven't spoken much since I cancelled on our Valentine's Day date."

"Did you two get in a fight over it?"

"No. He understood, like always, but ever since, we've both been really busy. The Sentinel has him on special assignment, trying to delve into the origins of the World Corps. He's off in North Onnutangu trying to work with Shizu to find out how Alpha managed to gain so much power without anyone noticing." Prysmatica sighed. "I wish I knew if I was right not to tell him about being Prysmatica. I know I can trust him, but all it would take is one slip of the tongue..."

"I know," Angela said. "You're going to make a decision quickly, though. If you bring him to the wedding, you're going have to explain how you know Gerri and so many other heroes."

"I know," Romana said. She paused for a moment, her hands resting on the frame of her box. "Is it wrong for us to be doing this without Futurina here?"

"Until we have a clue where she is, there isn't much we can do otherwise," Angelica answered. "The boys are on it. Ace thinks he can create a tracking spell, and Catalyst has been rifling through the remains of the ship for any bit of tech he can salvage. Our best bet is on Starmaster and Astra finding her telepathically on the Astral Plane, like they found Astra's friend, Doug."

A knock and a voice came from outside the open doorway. "Am I too early?"

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

Madam Marvelous
Eggie and I arrived at the party for Ms. Fae about half-an-hour before it was due to start. I hadn't seen much of my mentor for quite some time and when I got the invitation for the baby shower from Prysmatica, I was honored to have been invited. I'd never been to a baby shower before, let alone a pre-wedding outing. I knew The Sword of Gerraxia only from brief encounters at BADGE events and talk around the Star Force HQ. I hoped she wouldn't mind my showing up, seeing as we were nearly strangers.

I shapeshifted into the form of an athletic African/American woman, closely resembling Michonne from the Walking Dead. I found her appearance both striking and intimidating. I hoped that by varying my racial profile, it would help protect both my and her secret identities. I'd sent Prysmatica and Chained Angel my image ahead of time, as to not surprise them. Eggie waited in the car, her knitting bag taking my place in the passenger's seat.

"I don't think they would mind if you joined us," I said to her as I checked my appearance in the passenger door mirror. The variation in skin tones was interesting. I liked the way my assumed facial structure emboldened me. I felt tough looking like this bad-ass character. "Isn't the saying for parties, the more the merrier?"

"Oh, no dearie," Eggie said with a smile. "I was patterned to look this way to draw attention away from you while in public, being based off such a well-recognized and beloved character. At social gatherings such as this, I don't want to be a novelty to pull focus from the lovely Ms. Fae and the bride-to-be. I'm much happier being out here on surveillance duty, just in case this prankster shows up to make trouble."

I shrugged at her, grabbed my presents, and headed into the Neo Utopia Botanical Gardens building. Signs clearly marked the location to our staging area for the tour. I kicked the door softly, a gentle attempt to knock before entering. "Am I too early?"

"No, Kitt'n," Chained Angel, or Angelica as I should call her, said as she crossed the room and took the presents from my hands. She still looked like an angel, even without her wings. Her bright red hair was pulled into a French braid, while Romana's blue hair was darker and hung loosely around her face. "You're the first to show up. Welcome."

"Kitt'n, ciao," Romana said with her faint Italian accent, then she caught how what she said sounded and started to laugh. "I'm sorry. Hello."

"It's fine," I laughed, never having been greeted by someone saying 'Kitt'n Chow' before. "Can I help?"

"Please do," Romana said as she waved her hands over the table she was placing bags onto like a stock-person at a display in a grocery store. "Help me make this look nice."

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

Crossroads
Allyson arrived at the botanical gardens in Neo Utopia by car instead of portal. She just didn’t get to drive her car that often when she could portal anywhere she wanted.  Well, mostly by car. It’s a long drive from New Orleans to Neo Utopia, so she sort of took an inter-dimensional short cut to cut her drive time to 10 minutes.  Pretty handy just driving her car through a portal without backing out of her garage or opening the door and just suddenly being two blocks from the Botanical Gardens in a city hundreds of miles away!

Parking her little sky-blue VW Beetle in the parking lot, she looked for anyone she knew as she approached the entrance.  Allyson passed a car with an elderly lady knitting in the front seat, apparently waiting for someone.  For some reason she looked familiar, but Allyson couldn’t place where she had seen her before.  Not threatening, just familiar. Shrugging it off, she saw the signs guiding her to where they were to meet.

Looking into the little meeting room, she saw Romana and Angelica arranging gift bags on a table. A strong, athletic looking black woman was helping them.  She looked a lot like Okoye from the Marvel Avengers movies, but with hair.  She had a serious expression, but laughed easily at something that Romana said.

“Hi!” Allyson said. “Thank God it doesn’t look like I’m the last to arrive!  I hate being late!”
"Just think what I could accomplish if I didn't have all these 80's song lyrics in my head!"

Re: Gerri's Big Day (Collaborative Fiction)

Madam Marvelous
"Hi, Ally," I said after Romana and Angelica had stepped over and embraced the infamous Crossroads. I'd only encountered her during League Wars in the hallways and during BADGE event, but her reputation was inspiring. I could be practically anything, but she could go anywhere and had separate alternates spread across all the differing dimensions. "Call me Kitt'n. I just put on a different face for the occasion, but it is honor to meet you in person."

"Well," Ally's eyes went momentarily wide and a warm smile overtook her face. "Honored to meet me. I should have dressed better then." She laughed as I blushed. "No worries. It's nice to meet you as well, Kitt'n. Do we know when the guests of honor will be arriving?"

Angelica shook her head. "We haven't heard from either of them yet. I hope that woman who has been playing mind games with Gerri hasn't shown up again."

A chirp went off from Romana(Prysmatica)'s phone. She pulled it out of her purse and read the message. "Nothing like that, it seems. Gerri is on her way. She got caught up with some family issues."

Other women arrived in a steady stream. Angelica and Romana greeted them, offered nametags and gift bags, and made introductions. Madam Marvelous was asked to wait outside and watch for either of the guests of honor to arrive, so she headed to an exit, checked to be sure she was unobserved, and became a cardinal. Perching in a tree just outside the parking lot, she watched diligently.

Ally mingled with the growing crowd. Some she knew from her excursion to the Fae Realm, some as heroes, but there were also a few strangers in the crowd from Gerri and her husband-to-be's extended families.
