It's A Brand New Cold Case

TheCloser
He had one advantage, he'd retired before the end of the last universe. He wasn't as wrapped up in the whole thing. He'd lost practical control, long before the end. His powers still functioned, he could fight the fight, but he was a blunt instrument. The chaos had taken up a permanent residence.

So he quit. Gave up? Certainly. Found another fight? Also true. He could carry both pride and shame, he had a strong back, and a long way to go...

He thought he was chasing a new purpose, at first, but it was just the quiet he was searching for.

He really thought he'd found it too, and then it happened...

Every power abused, every promise broken, every system breaking down, the current actuality began to unravel, like a ball of string in the hands of an over aggressive kitten.

The great powers were prepared to battle, or hide, some rejoiced. He thought it was funny at first, and it was. Until his own powers revolted...

The nanites consumed every source of matter, rearranging it around him, he was creating his own unbreakable tomb. That probably would have been frightening, but at the same time he was absorbing an indescribable, incomprehensible, absurd amount of energy. It felt good.

He wasn't the only one that got stronger there at the end, others almost certainly survived as well. I'm sure they'll make themselves known.

This is a nice universe, it has Law, and Chaos, and Truth, and Villainy. The last one was overly dramatic, he'd tried to help this one keep a lighter heart.

Something wasn't right...

TheCloser
This post was updated on .
It was the explosions that threw me off the scent...

Bodies were flying though the air. Buildings vaporizing before my eyes. Every abandoned stroller rolling down Parkway hills, was packing a little bundle, but it wasn't joy, it was C4.

It seemed like action, I thought it was just action...

Villains were being taken down, and the guys were having a great time on the job. I'd heard the situation characterized as a "Romp".

Didn't sound bad, at the time, but then I began to notice, other things...

It seemed that the teams ethnicity spread, while not statistically perfect, certainly acceptable for public approval, and the guys accents, were perhaps, a little thicker than absolutely necessary.

Then he did it. The Captain, brought in a dog!

I don't know why, but it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I mean it made perfect sense. He hadn't been having any luck in the Superhero dating scene, despite his best efforts, and much to the enjoyment of the Precinct. He could use the companionship.

But this giant Caninosaur running through the building, was the last piece of the puzzle. While it knocked over everything that wasn't Grav-plated to the floor. Including Andres, in a towel! And hairnet!?

I was having a minor break-down.

Grabbing the dogs collar, I found myself screaming into it's face, as he licked mine. "It's A "Buddy Cop" Movie!"

"Yeeeeech!!"

"This Whole Universe... Is Silly!!"
