Dr Vermicious woke slowly, his head pounding and his skin covered in a fine dusting of what appeared to be glass. As he brushed it from his body it gathered together and created a slightly glowing crystal sphere. Without any idea why he pushed his finger into his side and inserted the small globe inside his body. For some reason he knew he had just done something very important. He would figure out just what when he knew where and when he was now.
Sitting up he looked around and discovered he was in some kind of garden. As he stood he became aware of other people around him. Large people, shouting at him. He didn't understand the language but the look of the men? Yes. Men. Was definitely threatening. He walked over to the smallest of the group and stared into the man's face. With a slight frown of curiosity he placed one hand on either side of the face and squeezed. After a very short time the screaming stopped and he let go of the corpse. With no discernable emotion he watched as the others ran away and turning back to the body lying on the ground he realised that he wasn't covered in bits of cloth like his victim. He quickly solved that problem and left the clearing, following a narrow path through the trees.
He hadn't gotten very far when he felt the need to rest again. Leaving the path he sat down under a large leafy tree and tried to make sense of things. He thought hard and realised the only thing he knew for certain was his name. Dr Vermicious. He could also access some flashes of confused images; a woman in armour, a demonic man, a large snake creature and some other strangely dressed people all intent on forcing him into the small crystal sphere. How could that be? Perhaps he would find out later, but for now he was tired. Sleep. That would help.
