Scene 1:

Present Day.

The Blue Oyster Club wasn't the sort of place you'd usually find Rakly in, but he had business to attend to. He sat quietly in a corner booth, trying not to be conspicuous as he sipped his drink. He was waiting for the performer on stage to get done with his performance so they could get to business. Mack Stallion was dancing in nothing but a G-string and his signature Mandalorian helmet he used to disguise his identity. Rakly wasn't too sure, he hadn't seen the metahuman in a long time, but he thought he recognized the patron shoving the most bills into Mack's G-string. "Is that Power Bottom?" he thought to himself as the song came to an end and Mack jumped off stage, grabbing all the bills on the stage floor as he passed them. After finishing his set, Mack made his way over to where Rakly was sitting as Power Bottom yelled at him, "Hey! Where're you going? I got more money!"

As Mack sat down, Rakly asked him, "Did you get what I asked for?"

Mack replied, "Yeah. The Gallifreyan was most obliging. He translated the ancient text like it was his first language. As long as you can secure the technology, it shouldn't be a problem."

Mack Stallion handed the translated text under the table to Rakly and Rakly handed him back a sealed envelope. With the transaction complete, Mack left the booth and headed to the dressing room.

"Where the hell do you think you're going?" the manager berated him, "Get back out there and shake your money makers!"

Mack punched him in the gut, crumpling him to the floor, before grabbing his stuff and heading for the door. Waving the envelope Rakly had given him, he casually strolled out the door saying, "I quit biatches!"

Scene 2:

A few days later at Avengers Tower.

Super Rakly and Strange Quark were busy going over the calculations on their project, one that had been in the works for over 4 years, when Phantom Among Phantoms enters the lab.

"You wanted to see me Rakly?" Phantom asked.

Rakly looked up from what he and Quark were working on. "Yes. Thanks for coming. We finally have the texts translated that Captain Coconuts of the Confederation of Pirates gave us. After some careful calculations, we're ready to proceed with the operation."

"Great!" Phantom replied. "What do you need from me?"

"Well," Quark responded, "we need to use my strange quark emissions to power the flux capacitor and open a window to the past. The problem is, we need the quark emissions to exist simultaneously in both the present and 1400 years ago. We can open a small window currently, but not enough to send or pull anything through. Currently, we can only look into the past like watching a television screen. However, if we can harness your phantom phasing powers to push my quark emissions through the threshold, we can achieve the quantum mechanics needed to drive the machine to open a fully functioning time portal."

"Wait.... wait, wait, wait!" exclaimed Phantom. "You don't really expect me to know what you just said, right? Just tell me what you need me to do. I'll leave the science to you guys."

"Look," said Rakly, "Just phase Quark while his quark emissions pass through the gate. We'll take care of the rest."

"How the hell did an ancient ninja clan from the 1500's design a time machine anyway?" asked Phantom. "They didn't even know about the technology or science needed for it back then."

"That's a question we'd all like to know the answer to." said Quark.

A long, long time ago, in a future, far, far away...….

The Gallifreyan had always been there to serve the King, always disappearing, only to return when most needed and times were dire. He had been there and proved himself so often, no one bothered to care that no one knew where he came from or that he hardly ever seemed to age, although, some times seeming younger in past instances than he did in later ones. The Gallifreyan had a secret, it seemed, but no one bothered to question him about it. They were just always happy he was there when they needed him.

Today, the King's son was getting married. While this was reason enough to make an appearance, it wasn't the real reason he was here. The Gallifreyan reminisced about the first time he had met the Prince of the Felinian Empire. His father, King Lionus had entrusted the Gallifreyan with chaperoning the pregnant Queen to a far away planet in the uncharted outer realms, far away from the civil war that was ravaging the charted galaxy. A planet called Earth...….

The distance was great, too far for even the advanced technology of the Felinians to make. But the Gallifreyan had technology the likes of which no one else in the Empire could match.
Unlike other ships, the Gallifreyan's Tardis could fold time and space, opening wormhole portals that traversed light years in mere seconds. Still, the trip to Earth took weeks, the distance was that great. The strain of the trip took its toll on the pregnant Queen, causing her to give birth to her son early. They were only half way when she went into labor. The unique energies at work in the wormhole took an effect on the child, warping his DNA in ways none could have expected, none, other than the Gallifreyan, that is. Still, it would be many years from now in the Prince's life before the full extent of those changes would be revealed.

The Queen died in childbirth, only ever seeing her child for one brief instant before she breathed her last. The Gallifreyan entrusted the child to an Earth family that had struggled with trying to have a child of their own. They understood that one day he might have to leave them, but they were happy to call him theirs till that day came. They named him Rex, a nod to his noble heritage. The Gallifreyan then left Rex with his new family and rejoined King Lionus in his fight to crush the rebellion. The King was never the same after the Gallifreyan had told him what happened to his wife.

After the war, Lionus sent the Gallifreyan to fetch his son. It had been 6 years, and with the war now ended, it was time to bring him home. Once again, the Gallifreyan made the trip to Earth. Rex's foster mother broke down into tears when she answered the door and saw him. She knew why he was there. They were in the living room when Rex broke away from playing with his Morphon Men action figures in his bedroom to see what was happening that had his mother upset.

He snuck up on the Gallifreyan, quiet and stealthy as a cat, before pouncing on him.

"RAWR!" yelled little Rex as he leaped at the man responsible for making his mother cry.

The Gallifreyan caught him easily in mid leap and held him at arms lengh.

"This must be little Rex!" the Gallifreyan exclaimed as he smiled.

"No!" Rex yelled at him as he punched and kicked, "I'm Fuma Hanzo! Ninja Lord and hero of feudal Japan! I will stop you from making my mother cry!"

The Gallifreyan smiled wide as he handed Rex to his foster mother.

"Maybe it would be best if you explained everything to him." he said to her. "I'll be back in a week to collect him. Get him ready for the trip. Say your goodbyes. Do what you need to in the time you have left together."

He still felt the pain in his heart he felt when he took Rex away. He still remembered her tears like it was yesterday.

For him, it was...…

Rex was excited to hear the Gallifreyan was coming to the wedding. He hadn't seen his old friend since his his Coming of Age celebration when the Gallifreyan had given him his ship, the Time Bandit. Rex liked to claim it was the fastest ship in the galaxy, but he knew that was only true when the Gallifreyan wasn't there.

The Gallifreyan had time travel tech, something rarely seen anywhere in all of known space. And while the tech he used to build Rex's ship contained time travel tech, it wasn't anything like what the Gallifreyan had in his own Tardis craft. The Gallifreyan explained that such technology was a highly guarded secret, and so he built the Time Bandit with only a fraction of the technological capability that the Tardis had. Still, it was an amazingly fast and agile ship. By modifying the Flux Capacitor to connect directly into the Magnadrive Hyperflux propulsion system, the Gallifreyan was able to make the ship "skip" through time. To the observer, the ship would move a short distance, disappear, and instantly reappear a short distance ahead. It would repeat this process as long as the Flux Capacitor was running. What actually was happening was that the Bandit would open a wormhole, or an Einstein Rosen Bridge, as the Gallifreyan often referred to it, a short distance ahead of the Bandit. As the Bandit propelled through it, it would disappear into the wormhole and exit a short distance later, effectively making the time between it disappearing and reappearing further ahead, take a fraction of a nanosecond. Even without the Flux Capacitor, the Bandit's engine made it fast. The Flux Capacitor made it easily twice as fast, with the Inertial Boosters making it even faster the further it flew. The Gallifreyan had given the Time Bandit to Rex so he could visit his foster parents back on Earth, a trip that would be impossible without the Gallifreyan's help.

As the Tardis landed in the Palace docking bay, Rex came out to greet his friend.

"Gallifreyan!" he exclaimed as he approached him with arms wide open, before embracing his old friend. "I just got here a few hours ago myself!"

"Oh?" the Gallifreyan smiled back. "Where were you so close to your wedding date?"

"I just got back from Earth in the Time Bandit." Rex beamed as he pointed at the ship a few spaces away from the Gallifreyan's own Tardis. "I was visiting Mom to tell her about the news. She wanted to come, but in her frail condition, the trip would likely have been a rough toll on her."

"Nice ship!" replied the Gallifreyan. "Where'd you get this beauty?"

Rex laughed and smiled at the Gallifreyan, before realizing the Gallifreyan's inquirery was genuine.

"Seriously, Gallifreyan?" asked Rex. "You gave it to me for my Coming Of Age. You seriously don't remember?"

"Really?" asked the Gallifreyan. "Huh. I'll have to remember that later."

"You're a strange individual, Gallifreyan." chuckled Rex.

"You know," replied the Gallifreyan, "You're not the first to say so...... or are you? Idk. Maybe. Time will tell."

Rex laughed some more as the two walked away from the docking bay towards the palace, catching up on each other's adventures along the way.
